30th June 2008 :Called
to the bar |
IF there's an A-list celebrity in want of a night out in Manchester, you
can bet your bottom dollar they'll turn up at Panacea.
The John Dalton Street venue has firmly established itself as the city's
top celeb-haunt over the past three years, and is a firm favourite of
Manchester's movers and shakers.
A huge amber bar dominates the basement venue and resonates a golden
glow throughout. Probably not the place for shrinking violets, as
Panacea is most definitely a "see and be seen" kinda place.
Style Spy Ros Okusanya, a model booker and scout for talent agency
Nemesis, and her model pal Carly Heath (pictured above) are regulars at
Panacea.
Ros says: "Panacea is a very chic place to me. The bar is absolutely
gorgeous, and it's the place to go.
"I'm a model booker and scout, and we go out scouting around town so we
need to hit the cool places, and we always end up in Panacea."
What to wear Brush off your finest dresses and don your designer heels.
Sportswear, trainers and headwear are a no-no, but bosses encourage
"positive flair" in guests' attire.
Who you'll see Manchester's "In Crowd" - PR bosses, media types,
fashionistas, as well as an impressive array of celebs. Coleen
McLoughlin held her hen party here, while The Spice Girls, Take That and
Westlife all held their after-show parties at the venue.
When to go Thursday night to mix with the city chic crowd, Saturday
night for celebwatching. The bar has an over-25s policy.
Opening hours Tuesday to Wednesday: Noon- Midnight, Thursday to Saturday:
Noon-2am. Sunday, Monday: closed.
Panacea, 14 John Dalton Street, Manchester, M2 6JR. TEL: 0161 833 0000

29th June 2008 :Midlanders
mingle while celeb diaspora flees the deluge |
Dublin airport was stuffed full of weather-beaten thespians looking all
forlorn in the departures lounge last week.
Why so forlorn? Sodden and Gomorrah is nothing new in the Irish summer.
But I suppose if you have a choice between depression and diaspora, one
would choose the latter -- especially if there is sunshine there.
Gabriel Byrne has gone to France for a holiday. Ireland's greatest actor
left these wintry shores at the same time as young pretender Colin
Farrell jetted out to sunny Los Angeles.
And before we know it, Bono and Ali will be jetting out to their chapel
of Eze for the summer.
Louis Walsh is made of sterner stuff. By flying off to Elton John's
Tenth Annual White Tie and Tiara Ball at Woodside, Crimp Hill, in Old
Winsdor, Berkshire, he may have been merely flying into another summer
storm -- but no doubt there will be plenty of candles for that wind. He
went with Joe Elliott's wife, Christine, the Lord high (waisted)
inquisitor of pop, Simon Cowell -- who was accompanied by girlfriend
Terri Seymour -- and Westlife's Mark Feehily and Mark's boyfriend Kevin.
Louis told me that he was going to be sharing a table with Sharon
Osbourne who recently departed the X Factor TV show. |

27th June 2008 :Summer
Rocks in Ireland |
SUMMER is here, and the warm temperatures grow a gaggle of artists that
settle in stadiums and amphitheaters. Ireland is no exception. If you
are planning a trip to the Auld Sod, you may want to pack a few extra
euros in the bag for some great shows scheduled throughout the Emerald
Isle.
One of the neatest gigs on the calendar is the World Fleadh, which will
take place in Portlaoise, Co. Laois from July 31-August 4. This year’s
festival will feature some of Ireland’s most celebrated and successful
musicians, including, Shane MacGowan, Damien Dempsey, Frankie Gavin,
Sharon Shannon, Tommy Fleming and many more.
No trip to Galway would be complete without a show from the Saw Doctors,
who will play that city’s Melody Tent on July 26.
As mentioned a few weeks ago, the Oxegen Festival will be taking place
at Punchestown Racecourse in Co. Kildare from July 11-13 and features
one of the most incredible lineups on the European festival circuit.
Look for Kings of Leon, REM and Rage Against the Machine, Counting Crows,
the Fratellis, Chemical Brothers, Roisin Murphy, Jack White’s the
Racanteurs and Republic of Loose.
The show typically sells out before the lineup is released, so if you
are planning to go, bring a tent (it is a camping concert) and be
prepared to throw yourself on the tender mercies of a scalper.
This has been a summer of boy bands in Ireland. Westlife just concluded
a tour with Shayne Ward that ended over the weekend, while a reunited
Boyzone is finishing up a tour of Ireland this week as well.

27th June 2008 :I
was singing in the rain and so were the soaked fans (Shayne Ward talks
about Westlife and Mark and Kevin. |
It was truly heartbreaking to see all those kids standing in the rain at
the Westlife concert in Galway last Saturday night.
I came on straight after X Factor girlband Hope, when the rain had only
started coming down. But by the end, everyone was soaked.
I know they were thinking about cancelling the concert at Pearse Stadium
but by that stage, it was too late -- we just had to carry on.
The whole stage was completely soaked as well, if it's any consolation
to the fans. I was sliding around for most of my set, pretending that it
was some new dance move but it was all a bit slippy.
I can honestly say, it was the worst moment of my career, standing there
and looking out at this sea of people getting rained on.
But by the end, the mood had lifted and everyone was cheering us on,
despite the terrible weather conditions.
I have to say, the crowd were just brilliant, one of the best I have
ever performed to.
The previous evening was a little easier, given that I sang at the Miss
Ireland final in Santry. I was backstage beforehand and I got to check
out the girls and some of them were just drop dead gorgeous, not that I
was ogling them or anything!
Playing at a function like that is so different to performing at a live
concert but I think everyone got into it.
I met the girl who won the contest, Sinead Noonan, and I thought she was
just beautiful, just one of these really down-to-earth girls who
everyone likes immediately.
I've been here in Ireland for most of the week as I've been busy touring
around the country, playing gigs in Killarney and Galway.
Last Monday, I headed to the Academy on Middle Abbey Street for the
launch of Bubble Hits Ireland.
I came over as a favour to James Hyland, who set up the station, and I
was so glad I did. There was a really good crew there and it was the
first time I had ever checked out Aslan live. They were performing on
the night too.
Christy and the boys were just amazing and it was brilliant the way
everyone knew the words to all the songs. Their big hit, Crazy World, is
one of my favourite all-time songs, I would love to perform that one day.
It was my second time running into the girls from Hope in the space of
just two days, as they were there as well, and I also got to meet Tom
Baxter for the first time. He seemed really cool.
Afterwards, myself and Louis Walsh headed down with a gang to the
Morrison Hotel for the aftershow party. It was meant to be an early
night but that never seems to happen in Dublin.
Of course, I got chatting to some old mates and we all ended up staying
in the residents' bar until all hours, catching up on the gossip.
Westlife's Mark Feehily was there too with his boyfriend Kevin McDaid.
They are so loved-up, it's unreal.

Elizabeth Hurley - or should that be Princess Elizabeth- led the glamour
stakes at millionaire singer Elton John's 10th annual White Tie and
Tiara Ball at his Windsor home last night.
Liz sparkled in her diamond tiara and a stunning aquamarine coloured
strapless gown as she left her west London home to attend the party with
dapper-looking husband Arun Nayar.
Elle MacPherson also dazzled in a 'bobo' style evening look. Her
stunning gold gown, beaded gold headband and vintage embroidered shawl
providing an alternative hippy-style glammed up look.
Held at Sir Elton and David Furnish's £20 million Windsor home it has
become the society event of the summer attracting A list celebrities
from far and wide.
Elton's partner David Furnish said: 'The theme this year is 'beach
party' so we've got Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys playing.
'The aim every year is to get people to say that it was the best one yet.'
The entertainment bar was set high after performances last year from Sir
Tom Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey.
Meanwhile the mix of guests included former U.S. president Bill Clinton,
Sir Michael Caine, The O.C. star Mischa Barton and Hollywood acting
couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Kelly Osbourne brought her new boyfriend, BMX rider, Luke Worrell, while
model-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn returned from New York with her latest
love, Strokes musician Albert Hammond Jnr.

Other
guests included Lulu, Gordon and Tana Ramsay, Graham Norton, Paul
O'Grady, Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine, Westlife singer Kian
Egan and fiancee Jodi Albert, Anthea Turner and Tracey Emin.
Former Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer took time out of his training
schedule to attend - last year the auction included a private tennis
lesson with the star.
The X Factor judge Louis Walsh attended with Simon Cowell and girlfriend
Terri Seymour.
The 620 invited guests paid £3,000 a ticket in the bid to raise even
more money than last year for the Elton John Aids Foundation.
The 2007 Las Vegas themed ball - where guests were served by waiters
dressed as Elvis - raised £6.1million.
In this year's auction Mario Testino auctioned his first private client
sitting.
Lavish floral arrangement were by celebrity florist Rob Van Helden who
has customised the blooms for each of the ten White Tie parties.
The White Tie and Tiara balls, which are sponsored by OK! magazine and
Chopard, have raised more than £26.9million since the first event in
1998. |

Phwoar to the top -
Exclusive Louis plans
Irish Girl Group: |
|
Louis Walsh has signed up tv babe Jodi Albert and top
model Michelle McGrath to front his new girlband.
The sexy duo have been in secret talks with music mogul Louis Walsh
to make an Irish band to rvial Girls Aloud.
Stunning, Jodi, 24 already had plenty of experience in the music
business. She is engaged to Westlife's Kian Egan.
And Michelle is a top model who commands big money for her fashion
and and promotional shoots.
Louis now wants to find three more beauties to complete the line up
and will hold audtitions later this summer in Ireland.
A Source close to the star said ,"Louis had Michelle and Jodi on
board and is building the band around them ".
"He wants to make the group like and Irish version of the Pussycat
Dolls. Girls aloud will be watching their backs as these girls have the
voices and the sex apeal to blow them out of the water. "
Jodi and Michelle have been working closely together over the last
couple of months to get the band together.
"Louis is very determined to conquer the music charts again, with
this band and make them aglobal hit. "
X Factor judge Louise will ask Jodi's fiance Kian Egan to help run
the band in the early days, as they bid to land a big money recording
contract
They are already attracting big interest from top record labels and
industry sources say the band could have a deal within weeks of forming.
Louis told the Irish Daily Mirror last night. "I have a couple of
girls already on board but cant say anymore than that. "
"There will be others added later, but ive already got the bones of a
great band ."
Michelle is a well known face in the music industry. She regularly
jets off to london to record session music with band and singers.
The source added: Jodi and Michelle both have very strong voices so
the band will be built around them. The idea is to creat a girlband with
attitude."
"They dont want to stand there and look pretty, they want to have
something to say for themselves. "
It will be more R&B than pop, and the hunt is on for great songs that
will catapult them to the top of the charts.

27th June 2008 :Strawberry
fields not forever for Mark |
As the lighting crackled and the thunder roared over Pearse Stadium last
Saturday night, the four members of Westlife and Shayne Ward shared
their reminiscences of this fair town in times past.
The bould Shayne gave a great rendition of The Fields of Athenry even
giving us the great rolling R on the”nothing matters
Marrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreee when you’re free” line; Shane Filan said hello to
the cousins, but it was Mark Fehilly who had the most vivid memory of
Galway.
“I used to play tennis up the road here in the tennis club, but my
strongest memory is getting a burger in Strawberry Fields and then
puking my guts up on the street afterwards.”
What with The Artist Formerly Known as Bryan (McFadden) allegedly
calling Galway ‘a dump,’, what is it with boy singers and Galway?
The band and their familes enjoyed a great night’s craic after the gig
in the g Hotel where they were all staying. Almost all of the partners
and babies were there, including Nicky’s mum-in-law Miriam and her
partner Terry McCoy.

26th June 2008 :High
cost of gigging (mentions Westlife) |
CONCERTS AREN’T SELLING OUT anymore — it’s
got to be money. One of the first responses you’ll hear when telling a
friend that their favourite band or musician is coming to town is them
requesting — quite nervously — the price of tickets.
They're nervous for a reason. These days, if you want to see your
favourite band belting out all their hits, you gotta cough up the spuds.
We're currently in the middle of one of the most hectic months for live
music this year. It all began with Westlife in Croke Park and has thus
continued with the likes of Radiohead, Bon Jovi and, erm, Avril Lavigne.
Anyhow, all of these gigs have something in common -- none of them sold
out.
There are still tickets left for this year's Oxegen and Electric Picnic
Festivals. Leonard Cohen, Iggy and the Stooges, Eric Clapton; they'll
all be causing a stir around Dublin City over the next week and a half
and, after months of advertising, you can still buy tickets for all
three concerts, priced at €115, €55, and €76, respectively.
Has the nation suddenly woken up and realised that, yes, promoters have
been ripping us off for far too long? Earlier this year, someone,
somewhere must have put their heavy boot down in what has now led to a
ripple effect of mass proportions among gig punters. Because it
certainly wasn't like this last year, with the major festivals, as well
as artists such as Arcade Fire and the Police all selling out here.
Prince, who was supposed to be performing all of his greatest hits in
Croke Park next Monday, cancelled two days ago for reasons "beyond the
control" of both the man himself and the promoters.
Interestingly enough, the official statement apologises to the 55,161
people who bought tickets, but the show, like so many other big concerts
this summer, wasn't a sell out. Tickets ranged from €66.50 to €141.50.
That, folks, is way too much money to spend on any performer (don't get
me started on the price of Tom Waits tickets) and there's still no
concrete reason as to why the concert was cancelled.
Of course, the price of tickets might not be the key factor in all of
this, but that cheaper gigs are selling out in the POD Complex and
Whelan's week in week out.
Somehow, I just don't see Prince or anybody of his stature announcing a
show in any of those venues any time soon

extract from OK Magazine. Coleens wedding special... |

it.. Its in bold at the bottom of the article..
Quoted from Ok magazine
"And it was just as pudding was being devoured, that a white drape at
the side, at the terrace, was pulled down to reveal a stage, and to the
guests - amazement, Westlife......
The boys began "Hello everyone, we would like to congratulate Wayne and
Coleen on their wedding day and invite them up here for their first
dance!!!.... cheers erupted as Wayne led a smiling Coleen to the
dancefloor.
The couple then slowdanced to the Westlife hit "I do", looking lovingly
into each others eyes, while singing the words to each other..... As the
guests look on misty eyed. The boys then invited all of the guests up to
dance and family, friends and footballers are boogied to a string of the
boybands hits.......
There was another surprise in store for guests, though - the boys
invited Wayne on stage to sing , their hit Swear it again, as a little
bird had told them he could sing and they werent wrong, - we knew wayne
was perfect on the pitch, but pitch perfect ? the boys were so impressed
that mark Feehily said, " I think he could replace Brian Mcfadden",
Nicky Byrne then went onto say:" Coleen, you look absolutely beautiful
today, with Mark adding , Oi!!!, shes a married woman now,". After
playing a 45 minutes set, Nicky said to the bride and groom... its a
pleasure for us to be here, we hope you have along and happy life
otgether, Coleen told us why she told had chosen the boys for her big
day. "Saying, i think alot of the songs are perfect for a wedding. I ve
seen them in concert a few times now, and theres always so much energy....
"Across the dancefloor the Westlife
boys are propping up the bar after being asked to join the wedding by
the couple. Kian Egan who is planning his wedding to fiance Jodi Albert
said "Jodi and I are looking for wedding venues now - and Im really
involved and enjoy it .What ive learnt is two of the most important
things and that the food is served on time and its hot. While Mark said.
"Its an amazing wedding, everyone seems really happy. Im having a great

24th June 2008 -Ryanair
article that mentions Westlife : Stockholm .. |
Here is the Second article mentions them briefly when the destination
for the issue is Stockholm, :
Sweden’s island city is also the pop capital of the world. Everyone,
from Justin and Britney to Shayne Ward and Westlife, has gone there to
lay down hits. Lara Palamoudian finds out where you should go if you
want to eat, drink, sleep and party like a chart topper
Forget Hollywood, Miami Beach or Knightsbridge, Stockholm is the place
to go for a spot of secret starspotting. Why? Because a hit factory of
new home-grown songwriters has made the Swedish capital a huge draw for
pop stars looking for a catchy new melody. Britney Spears, Westlife and
Shayne Ward are just some of the big names who have hotfooted their way
over to get a fix of pure Swedish pop.
Robyn, local girl turned international pop star and style icon, knows
why. “People appreciate a good song here. We’ve always had a strong
tradition of melody in Sweden, even before Abba,” says the girl behind
such hits as Handle Me and Be Mine, “I’m inspired by lots of things in
Stockholm: music, dance, cartoons, comics, video games – popular culture
in general.”
Jörgen Elofsson, one of Sweden’s top songwriters who has written global
hits for stars such as Westlife, Leona Lewis and Britney, agrees. “We
have a tradition of great, catchy songs here – I love making records
that will change the face of music a little.”

Great tips on
where to eat, drink, shop, stay and party from some

Westlife
Record-breaking
pop sensations
HOW HAS IRELAND CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED OUT?
NICKY: “In the last 15 years, Dublin has really
started to thrive. It’s very cosmopolitan, and a
city of culture. The smoking ban helped the country
a lot, and a lot of premises have been upgraded,
with outdoor heaters. And that goes for the
restaurants and nightclubs, they’ve raised their
game, too.”
CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY HOTELS?
NICKY: “There’s an amazing hotel in Dublin.”
SHANE: “The Dylan. It’s fantastic.”
NICKY: “It’s a boutique hotel out of the city
centre.”
NICKY: “And the Shelbourne Hotel has undergone a
massive renovation.”
SHANE: “I stayed there recently and it’s top class.”
NICKY: “I mean, like Claridges. Shane, you look into
the bar, and it’s a very Irish bar. The Guinness
cocktails are unbelievable.”
MARK: “But it isn’t cheap. My dad got a sandwich,
and it was about 14 euros. It’s ridiculous. It’s not
somewhere to go on a backpackers’ holiday.”
ANY SIGHTSEEING TIPS?
MARK: “Kilmainham Jail in Dublin is great for Irish
history. The Guinness Storehouse is also good, and
that’s in Dublin, too.”
SHANE: “You’ve got to visit Sligo [north-west
Ireland, where most of Westlife are from]. It’s
surrounded by beaches and mountains, and is one of
the nicest towns. It’s a lot smaller than Dublin and
very tranquil.”
NICKY: “You’ve got to see Kerry [south-west Ireland].”
WHERE’S GOOD FOR A DRINK IN SLIGO?
SHANE: “Try Shoot the Crows.
They do a great pint of Guinness.”

24th June 2008 :Westlife's
biggest fan will be front of the queue |
PAULA CHAPMAN'S Morice Town flat has been turned into a shrine to Irish
pop crooners Westlife, but on the night of June 27 she won't be in it –
she'll be queuing up outside Home Park.
That's because Paula, aged 35, wants to be first in when the football
ground's doors open, so she can get as near to her heroes as possible.
“The last time I saw them I was in row 10 – that's the closest I've ever
been,” she said.
“But this time I hope to be at the front of the queue and to get right
to the front of the stage.
“Unfortunately I've never met them,” she lamented. “If I did, well that
would make my year.”
Paula, a senior care assistant in a residential
home, aims to get through the night with plenty of strong coffee and an
MP3 player packed with, you guessed it, Westlife tunes.
She's planning a sing-along with any other fans who join her as she gets
'psyched up' for the concert.
Paula may also be on her feet for some time, having also bought standing
tickets for the gig.
“You don't sit at a Westlife concert,” she said. “You'll be too busy
dancing.”
When Plymouth Argyle announced the Irish chart-toppers, who have had an
astonishing 14 number ones in the UK, were playing in Plymouth on June
28, Paula rushed out and bought six tickets.
They have been allocated to friends and her two daughters Hannah and
Bethany Sargent, aged 14 and 12.
That's very much Paula's style, she makes sure everyone who comes into
contact with her is exposed to the Westlife phenomenon.
The front window of her second-floor flat has been given over to a huge
Irish flag surrounded by numerous photos bearing the singers' handsome
mugs.
“If people come to my flat Westlife's music is usually playing,” she
said. “People haven't got a choice – they have to like them.
“It's good housework music, and good de-stress music. It's all good.”
For Paula her love affair with the platinum selling quartet began early
in their career, she first saw them live in 2001.
At that time the group, a product of the Simon Cowell/Louis Walsh pop
stable, were a five-piece.
But in 2004 Brian McFadden departed, leaving Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan,
Mark Feehily and Shane Filan to soldier on. It didn't dampen Paula's
devotion. “Kian is my favourite,” she explained. “But my children like
Shane.”
Paula has seen Westlife an amazing nine times in concert. “I see them at
Sheffield Arena every year,” she said.
“Westlife are just brilliant. The lads are wonderful and their music is
upbeat and varied. I wouldn't bother going to see anyone else.”

24th June 2008 :Superfan
will meet the gang |
AS IRISH pop charmers Westlife famously sang 'dreams come true' – and
they have for their biggest fan because thanks to The Herald and
Plymouth Argyle she will get to meet her heroes.
Paula Chapman, from Morice Town, has been a follower of the chart
toppers for years and has seen them in concert eight times.
But when The Herald heard that Paula, aged 35, had never met the band we
decided this had to change.
So after quiet word, those nice people at Plymouth Argyle were able to
swing it so that Paula would be able to sit centre stage in the 'golden
circle' when Westlife play at Home Park on June 28.
And they were also able to arrange for Paula to meet them..
“I can't believe it,” she said when The Herald broke the
news. “I'm going to have to scream loudly.
“What a way for their tour to end – meeting the nuttiest fan they have
got.
“It's brilliant, marvellous.”
Paula, who has never been closer to her heroes than row 10 at a concert,
will be joined by her daughters Hannah and Bethany Sargent, aged 14 and
12, and her sister Sara Hawkins for the meet and greet.
Paula, a senior care assistant in a residential home, will then be able
to speak to her favourite Westlifer: Kian.
“I don't have a clue what I'm going to say,” she admitted. “I'll be so
shellshocked, but I'll think of something I'm sure.”
Paula said she was inundated with phone calls after The Herald revealed
her devotion to the band, who have had 14 UK number one hits.
Many people were already aware of her Westlife mania, as the front
window of her second-floor flat has been given over to a huge Irish flag
surrounded by numerous photos bearing the singers' matinee-idol features.
Visitors to the flat are also usually bombarded with Westlife tunes, she
revealed.
Argyle chief executive, Michael Dunford, said the club was determined to
help Paula realise her dream.
He said: “When we heard about Paula we were absolutely delighted to help.
“We are looking forward to meeting her on June 28 when she will be able
to come face to face with her heroes.”
Tickets for Westlife on Saturday June 28, and for Meat Loaf on Friday,
June 27, cost £65 for the Golden Circle, £45 for seating, and £35 to
stand, from Plymouth Pavilions box office on 0845 1461460; Home Park on
0845 338 7232 and Ticketmaster on 0844 844 0444.

When I saw Wayne and Coleen’s wedding in OK! I thought Coleen looked
absolutely stunning and Wayne scrubbed up well too.
It brought back memories of my Italian wedding, even though Coleen
looked ten times better than me!
Westlife were the surprise performance and apparently when Wayne got on
stage with them, Mark Feehily said: ‘I think he could replace Brian!’
I’m glad they’re still laughing about all that and maybe Wayne could
join them!

23rd June 2008 :WHIFF-LIFE
- WESTLIFE PERFUME |
|
WESTLIFE are used to the sweet smell of success - and now hope to cash in on the scent of it.
The chart-toppers already have 14 No1 hits, sold 35 million albums and have just released their autobiography "Our Story".
But now the heartthrobs are cashing in on their fame by making their own brand of perfume.
And millionaire stars Mark, Kian, Shane, and Nicky are using their wives and partners to help come up with the perfect aroma.
In fact the lads want their new product to be a combination of the scents of their better halves!
The band have already named the perfume X by Westlife and hope to have it in stores for the Christmas rush.
Shane Filan revealed: "We're going to get all their fragrances that our wives and partners use and put it all together as one. It's something we've been working on and we think it's a great idea."
A source close to the band revealed: "This was just an idea that was floated about one day and the lads really liked it.
"But the lads being the lads, they want to have a major input into it.
"They're getting lots of samples and they'll probably be involved in the design o
the bottle as well as the marketing and anything else they can think of.
"They want to ensure this isn't just a tacky venture and they want to have full control. There are millions of devoted Westlife fans and the lads want a product that reminds their fans of them."
The band is already beginning to wind things down ahead of their planned year off
But for the next few weeks they will be carrying out promotional work for their book which charts their 10 years together and recounts many of the hilarious stories from their time on the road.
Kian Egan said the four members are all looking forward to a well-earned rest.
He added: "It's been 10 years and after we take our break we'll be planning for the next 10.
"We've no plans for a new album or anything and although we're taking a break we'll be doing things here and there together." |

23rd June 2008 :Nicky
byrne's vocal cut from cd.... |
CYNICS have long claimed that some boyband members are only there to look good, but cannot really sing. So when Westlife star Nicky Byrne discovered that none of his vocals had been used on the band album Allow Us To Be Frank, he was not amused.
The boyband star, who is preparing to take a year-long break with the band, said he insisted his voice must be used on the CD of Frank Sinatra covers.
The Dubliner said he would never be in the record-breaking group just to make up the numbers and would fight to ensure that his talents were recognised.
He said: I discovered not one of the vocals had been used and I said to the boys, I m not going home until this changes .
He added: I wasn t going to stand there and make up the numbers. I m not the type of person who will just pick up the cheque I ve got something to give.
As well as dealing with band members, Nicky also has to work to keep his relationship with wife Georgina going when he is away.
The singer, who is father to twins Rocco and Jay, said in an interview with OK! magazine: You have to work at it
but you have to work at all relationships. Being away for too long is never healthy and we were always conscious of that fact and invited the girls out with us.
And he said the scrum surrounding the wedding of Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin last week, at which Westlife sang, reminded him of his own nuptials.
He said: The press were everywhere, probably because I was marrying the Taoiseach s daughter. It was hard, but you have to take the rough with the smooth and get on with it.
The singer, who tells his life story in the band s new book Westlife: Our Story, also said Liam Gallagher, who was at a store opening, was one of the rudest celebrities he has ever met.
He said: At the time we loved Oasis so I went up to say hi and thought it would be really cool to tell him we were in Ronan Keating s new band, but he just looked at us.
He didn t even say hello!
Meanwhile Shane, who is planning to brush up on his golf during his year off, said he doesn t think the band will ever break up.
Despite the early loss of one member, he said: Splitting up has never been on the radar.

23rd June 2008 :A
little snippet.... from OK Magazine..... |
Heres a little snippet from the magazine to keep us going...
Thanks to Gloria for reading to me and me for typing....

23rd June 2008 :Making
waves for music charity |
Making waves for music charity
By Sammy Jones
WE all know how our favourite songs sound...but how would they look?
This curious question is being answered by Milton Keynes-based company
Epic Fine Art, who are making Soundwaves – translating music into
customised canvasses.
It's contemporary art for music lovers everywhere – and while fans shed
out their money on the truly original pieces, Nordoff-Robins Music
Therapy will be quids in. It is hoped that over a three-year period,
Soundwaves will raise a tidy one million pounds for the specialist music
therapy charity.
Attracting names to the campaign is proving to be an easy task too: So
far Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, Roger Waters and Nick Mason have signed
up, alongside George Michael, Coldplay, Dido, Snow Patrol, Westlife,
Status Quo and Jamie Cullum.
"When artists see the work, they all sign up," said creator Tim
Wakefield. "They have all been shocked at how good the pieces are. They
are all artists in their own right, so for them to appreciate these
pictures is really flattering...."
Tim has a history in producing art in aid of charity. One previous
project focused on sporting heroes. Footballers, for example, were asked
to make their prints on canvas using a ball and paint. A piece by
Thierry Henry sold for £21,000!
This is the first time that Tim and business partner Tom Bowron have
stepped into the pop realms though, and turning the digital images made
in a recording studio into customised canvasses is a time consuming
affair. Well, you can't hurry perfection, right?
Ten variations of each songs' 'picture' are created, printed, hand
varnished and sent over to the artists for their preferences and
approval. Once that side is sorted, the artist then gets to add their
truly personal touch – with signatures and lyrics.
And – as you can see on the front page with Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars
and on the right with Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here – the results
really are stunning.
"This is what us musos stare at on computer screens when we record only
now they're much more beautiful when rendered cleverly like this,"
commented Jamie Cullum. "It's an amazing project which is going to make
a big difference to the lives of thousands of people throughout the UK."
"Led Zeppelin would be fantastic," says Tim when we ask him which artist
he would love to get signed up to the venture.
"They are just the greatest band in Rock n Roll history, and when I was
in my teens they were so cool that everyone owned their records. Another
special one for me would be The Clash..."
Currently the duo are working on one canvas a week, and will therefore
secure some 50 artists in the coming year, with plans afoot to
eventually feature 100 different tracks over the course of the project.
Pieces will sell for anything from a few hundred pounds for the smaller,
lesser-known artists up to thousands for the biggest of the bunch. Many
of the works will go to auction via the charity directly, and you can
purchase online too.
"People pay £500 for a suit these days," says Tim of the prices asked.
"I would never pay that, but I would pay out for a piece of beautiful,
original fine art."

completed or to purchase, go to

20th June 2008 :Our
pop back pages (westlife:our story interview)
|
After the last minute cancellation of their Arena
show earlier this month due to two of the group falling ill, Westlife
will be in town next week to honour the date. But it will be the last
time we see them for a while, as the quartet plan to take at least a
year off after the current tour. LISA WILLIAMS spoke to them about the
break and their latest book Our Story...
How did you manage to write a book between the four of you?
Nicky: Well it was obviously difficult in more ways than one for the
writer, Martin Roach. He interviewed us separately and interviewed us
collectively. He also had to cater for four different personalities and
four different people talking and telling the same story in different
versions, but he did it effectively. I read the book and even though I
know all the stories and I was in stitches laughing, It's a milestone in
our career ten years on. Even if you're not a Westlife fan, the book is
a success story in the pop industry.
Kian: We've all opened up - Mark in particular opened up and said things
he might not have said to members of his band. It's sometimes easier to
talk to someone outside the band about your story so we've told it as
was. I'm not a massive book-reader but this one I read in three or four
days - I couldn't put it down. I was quite taken aback with how fast I
wanted to read it, even though I knew what was going to happen.
How did you feel when Brian McFadden announced he was leaving?
Nicky: My initial thought when he told us was that he was punking us.
That was Brian's personality. He was sitting beside me so I looked at
him, smiled, laughed, and started checking him for wires because that
would be a typical Brian thing to do. I respect him for doing it even
though it was heart-breaking . I thought he was crazy. I offered him
counselling, we were almost in relationships with each other in terms of
how much time we were spending together so I thought maybe counselling
might have helped us. But there were different things going on that we
didn't know about. Obviously there were things going on with his
marriage that we didn't have a clue about. But I think he made the right
choice for him.
Shane: Brian leaving was a very big turning point within Westlife, I
wonder whether we would be still be together if Brian hadn't left, I
don't know. At the time it made us realise how lucky we were and how
fickle the thing could be - that it could be over just like that. It
made us stronger as a group.
Nicky: We only got bigger after he left which was a bit weird in a way.
We never expected that - to even last would have been good but you
actually out-do ourselves and keep getting better was really good.
What do you think of Louis Walsh's involvement in X Factor?
Kian: As long as what he's doing with Westlife what they've always done
with Westlife then that's the important thing. I think Louis being
involved has done nothing but good for us. He knows the people who run
the show, the people behind the scenes and it opens doors. Contacts are
a very big part of our industry.
Three of you have known each other since school and Shane is married to
Kian's cousin. Is Westlife a family affair?
Shane: We've known each other since we were 12, so for more than 15
years so it has been kind of like they're family to a certain degree. We
picked each other as mates so that is the backbone to a strong
relationship, and when the others came they gelled with us straight
away.
Do you have a favourite book?
Shane: I don't read that much but I've started reading a lot crime books
by writers such as Paul Williams. His are books about crime in Ireland,
all true stories. In general I like history, facts and public figures.
I'm intrigued by JFK, for example.
Were you worried about how people would react to news that Mark was gay?
Mark: I really didn't give a damn what anyone thought - that's one of
the key things that anyone that's gay needs to realise before they come
out. It's getting to the point of not giving a s**t what anyone thinks
that actually pushes you into it. Too many people care about what people
will react like and that's the problem. For me I really didn't care what
anyone thought and I don't mean that in any ignorant or aggressive way
it was just the way it was.
What will you do during your year off?
Shane: My wife is pregnant so I'm looking forward to having some time
off. But I'm worried I'll be bored after four or five months, not
working. Even if you have a new baby it's going to be a shock to the
system after having a schedule for so long.
What do you think Westlife stands for today?
Kian: We're not a political band, we're not trying to make any big noise
politically or in the music industry. We don't try to sell ourselves as
this credible, funky band that writes their own records and is making
milestones in the music industry. We're just four guys that sing great
pop songs for pop fans.
Westlife appear at the Trent FM Arena on Tuesday June 24 supported by

My most treasured memory has to be when a friend agreed on going to the
Greatest Hits tour with me. A day later she sent me an e-mail, I cry
whenever I read it.
At that time I was feeling rather down and in the e-mail she wrote that
she had noticed. She told me to enjoy life because life is beautiful and
that it's worth it to enjoy. We'd have lots of fun at the concert, she
wrote with conviction.
The thing however that stands out is the following sentence, she wrote:
I'm still enjoying the look in your eyes that you had when I said that I
was going to the Westlive concert with you. She didn't even know how to
spell Westlife but she would go, just for me. I then knew that I had a
very special friend. She still is A VERY SPECIAL FRIEND!!

Westlife have had a special song for every moment of my life in the last
10 years. When I had my daughter who needed surgery over 2yrs, they were
there for me on the CD player in hospital, when I had surgery, they were
in my walkman, when my dad got ill, they brought me comfort and helped
me through sleepless nights on the MP3 player. When my son was born, he
was humming their tunes by a year old! Now he's 3, he adores them. He
knows all the words, even to old albums. Out shopping he hears them and
shouts "MUMMY WESTLIFE ARE SINGING FOR YOU"! He cannot wait for his
first concert! The boys have helped me through so much, they are always
a great support through their wonderful music. Thanks lads, your amazing
xxxx

Hard to pick one memory, as I've got 10 years filled with them.
Highlight being meeting them, the show I've seen and of course Croke
Park, but a very personal memory is listening to 'You Light Up My Life'
with my best friend from Brazil when I first met her in Italy, we just
sat on the bed eating chocolate, me filling her in about the latest
Westlife news like we'd been together like that for years. Without
Westlife we never would have met, and now whenever I hear that song I'm
back there with her, even when we're on different continents. The
friends I met through Westlife are the best friends in the world, and
along with all the Westlife memories brought me something for life!
jodieluvzshane
I've never seen them in concert or been lucky enough to meet them. But
the moment that sticks in my mind most is being sat in my lounge room
watching Greatest Hits DVD. My hip hop loving brother had his hip hop
loving friends over (who were giving me absolute hell). Written In The
Stars was playing, I was trying my hardest not to cry while watching it.
My brother told me in front of his mates that I should be proud of
supporting a band that meant so much and could bring out that emotion,
gave me a hug and turned it up louder. That was it - the tears were
falling.
mfeehilyfan
There are so many Westlife memories for me... EVERY time I meet them,
seeing Mark on his Birthday this year, all the TV shows and concerts
I've been to... but the one that really stands out has to be Croke. From
the build up while standing in the queue with friends, to the concert
itself. And what made it even better was that I was stood right in the
centre of the front row, so I could see all the joy and emotion in their
faces as they performed. They looked so proud on that stage, putting on
the best show ever.
And I'm sure if you asked the lads what THEIR most significant memory
was, I'm sure they would say Croke, so with over 80,000 people standing
behind me, I feel so lucky to have been there to celebrate with them...
and those memories will stay with me forever!

Jun 19 2008 by Laura Sharpe, Liverpool Daily Post
Fans brave wind and rain to meet pop idols
LIVERPOOL’S Bold Street turned into a mecca for devout Westlife fans
yesterday, when the boys called into Waterstones to sign copies of their
new book.
More than 400 fans lined the street for the book signing, with a large
number of them having queued since Tuesday night, braving wind and rain
to meet the Irish boyband.
A spokesman for the store said: “It’s the busiest book signing we’ve
ever had, and there was such a mix of fans from small children to women
in their 50s and 60s. There were women with pers- onalised T-shirts with
Westlife written in glittery letters, and others with scarves. Some were
crying after meeting the band.”
The band, formed and managed by Louis Walsh, were in the city signing
copies of their new autobiography, Westlife – Our Story.
