November 2007 :Going For A Gong

IRELAND'S biggest showbiz bash will turn into a battle of the band mates when Westlife and their ex-singer Brian McFadden go head-to-head.

The stars were yesterday unveiled as two of the names who will battle for Meteor Award glory at the RDS on February 15.

Comedian Dara O'Brian will host the event which is now in its eighth year. Also gunning for glory will be top acts including Sinead O'Connor, Andrea Corr, Justin Timberlake and Kanye West.

At yesterday's official launch in Dublin Sinead told the Irish Daily Mirror: "It's a real honour to be nominated and the competition is tough."

Westlife's Shane Filan said: "With this being our 10th anniversary it would be the icing on the cake to grab the award again."

And Future Kings Of Spain frontman Joey Wilson said: "It's great to be up for three Meteor Awards - best band, album and live act - and to be nonimated alongside some other great acts."

article shortened here, to read whole article you can do so on our forum and comment also HERE!

Furthermore, in 1999, Louis Walsh's very own boyband protege -- Westlife -- incurred the wrath of Sinn Fein and other hard-line republican entities for helping to launch the annual poppy appeal in Britain, with the result that the band was forced to renege on its pledge of support.

November 2007 :Westlife couldnt call it..

Westlife featured in Sinitta x factor column in New magazine this week, i scanned it for you all

Westlife came on the show this week and were really impressed by all the acts. When i spoke to them after the first live performance, they couldnt say who they thought would be in the bottom two. With all the finalists raising their game, the competition is really gettting tighter. Next time, they have to perform one up-tempo song and one ballad. It will be interesting to see how the acts cope with learning two routines.

November 2007 :Are boybands dead

ARE boybands dead? Well, according to Backstreet Boys and Westlife, they are still pretty much alive and kicking even after all these hard years.

Read about how the veteran boybands are back with a vengeance (with a new album each) in the latest issue of Galaxie, out on newsstands tomorrow.

To pop music lovers who think good ol’ BSB is no longer relevant to the industry, this is what A.J. McLean has got to say, “A lot of bands today don’t want to admit that they’re doing pop. But it is pop ’cause their music is so well structured. It has great melodies and hooks, just like ours.”

Hitting at punk-pop bands of the moment like Good Charlotte and Fall Out Boy, he adds, “What is pop? It’s popular music that is played most on the radio or MTV, or generates the most album sales.”

Galaxie, through its celebrity rep Philip Berk in Los Angeles, also talks to doting mum Jennifer Garner, who proves that the hand that rocks the cradle can kick butt too as she gets armed and fabulous in The Kingdom. Her new movie and baby daughter aside, the 35-year-old also speaks passionately about her hubby Ben Affleck.

On the hot gossip front, check out the paparazzi shots of Christina Aguilera’s first baby shower. Or if you fancy something more spicy and sexy, the Spice Girls are not shy to flaunt it all at their reunion onstage at the Victoria Secret’s fashion show.

For fans of Asian entertainment, you can read all about your favourite Asian stars in Hello Bolly and Go East. Shah Rukh Khan is box office king in Bollywood again!

Om Shanti Om, his latest release which was pitted against director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, is clearly in the lead at the box office. The film, co-produced by Shah Rukh, is minting money outside of India as well.

As for Lollipop and Han Ye-seul, their X-factor has contributed to their soaring popularity in the Far East. Since it is holiday season, the good-hearted people behind Galaxie are spreading some joy by giving away hundreds of free tickets to The Golden Compass and Alien vs Predator: Requiem.

Galaxie is a fortnightly entertainment magazine published by Star Publications (M) Bhd. The magazine also has a blog at www.galaxieblog.com.my, which provides pop culture reports and views on the latest happenings in entertainment. – By Noorsila Abd Majid

November 2007 : Westlife's biography for The Meteor awards

Since their launch in 1998 Westlife have become a total cultural phenomenon. After 8 years they are still at the top of their game and continue to push the boundaries of achievement. Their album released last year, Face To Face was the biggest selling album in 2005 for record label SonyBMG, selling 1.1 million copies in just 3 months after its release in October.

Westlife are bigger now than ever before and have completely outlasted any of their rivals. No band can compare to them in terms of success. In their 8 years so far they have sold over 35 million records globally; had seven multi-platinum albums in the UK alone and scored a record breaking 13 UK number ones. Westlife have also picked up countless awards and appeared on hundreds of magazine covers around the world. They are the only recording artists to win the prestigious Record Of The Year an incredible four times, other top awards include two BRIT Awards, an MTV Europe Award and 7 Meteor Ireland Music Awards. Westlife are the biggest selling Arena act ever and spent the first half of the 2007 on The Love Tour performing tracks from The Love Album as well as their greatest hits throughout March and April.

After taking some time off over the summer months after the end of the tour, Westlife have recently been busy in the studio working on a brand new album. A whole host of top producers including Steve Mac, Quiz/Larossi, Per + David, Jorgen Elofsson and Maratone (Rami, Antor + Savan) have collaborated with the guys on the new CD, which is titled 'Back Home' and released in early November. The first single from the new album is 'Home', a cover of a track originally recorded by Michael Buble is already a Top 5 Hit.

28.11.2007
Westlife Update

It's been a super-busy few weeks for the boys, who've had their hands full with lots of international TV, radio and press interviews, taking place both in Europe and in London. Last week they also did two fab photoshoots for Christmas editions of the Sunday Mirror and Tesco magazine - keep an eye out for those, coming soon.
On Saturday they appeared on the X Factor and gave their first ever performance of ‘I'm Already There', which they were all really pleased with. The boys then had a few days off, except for Mark who did an interview and photoshoot with his boyfriend Kevin for the front cover of Attitude magazine.

Tomorrow the guys have an interview for Australian TV with presenter Molly Meldrum, and on Friday they will start rehearsals for their ITV special, and will continue rehearsing almost every day until the show on 15th December.

They will, however, be taking some time out for a live appearance on This Morning on Monday!

November 2007 : Westlife to go live on ITV1

After 14 UK number ones and 36 million record sales worldwide, the biggest selling pop act of the last nine years, Westlife, are treating their fans to a one-off musical extravaganza, The Westlife Show: Live, exclusively for ITV1.

The Westlife Show: Live is a colourful celebration of the band’s hits spanning their record-breaking career. Of the tracks Shane, Kian, Mark and Nicky sing on the night, five will be the top tracks voted for online ahead of the show from a selection of Westlife’s classic number ones.

Which of their classic hits will make the top 5? Flying Without Wings, Mandy, World Of Our Own, My Love, Unbreakable, You Raise Me Up...?

This live show is to be hosted by Holly Willoughby and in addition to the classics Westlife will be performing exclusive material from their new No.1 album, Back Home, and there'll also be some extra special guests, as well as some surprises in store.

Westlife member Shane says: “We’re very excited and thrilled to have our own TV special. We’ve seen so many amazing TV specials over the years on ITV1 so it’s an honour to finally have our own”.

Kian continues: “There’ll be lots of our biggest hits plus new songs from the new album Back Home. Also, there’ll be a couple of really good surprises which we can’t reveal yet. Fans will also have had chance to choose some of the songs we perform, which is best bit about the show really”.

When asked if they still get a buzz from performing in front of an audience, Shane says: “Yes, especially if it’s a live TV show like this one, it’s even more exciting then.”

Kian continues, “The audience is going to be made up of our biggest fans, so it’s going to be quite a spectacle”.

If they had to pick one of their number 1 hits to perform on the night, Shane plumps for "You Raise Me Up. Every time we sing it we never get sick of it".

Kian says that the highlight of his career so far is “still being together after nearly ten years. We are very proud of that”.

Shane puts the key to Westlife's success down to “Great songs, hard work and honesty within the band and the people we work with”.

November 2007 : Cobh look to eclipse old stars

Cobh Ramblers FC are looking for a new claim to fame after the former club of Roy Keane and Westlife's Nicky Byrne won promotion back to the Irish top tier.

Famous names
Most football fans know Cobh as the club that Keane played 29 games for before moving on to Nottingham Forest FC, Manchester United FC and world renown. Pop fans may be more familiar with them because Byrne, a member of boy band Westlife, played eleven games between the posts for Cobh in the 1997/98 season before quitting football for a career in music.

Automatic promotion
Back in the Irish top division for the first time in 13 years, Cobh are now hoping to unveil a new generation of stars, with coach Stephen Henderson relishing the prospect of Premier Division football in 2008 after Cobh – from a town 20km outside of Ireland's second city, Cork – won automatic promotion to the top flight as second tier champions.

New heroes
"People here still talk about the team of 1983, when they were a non-league side but went all the way to the semi-finals of the FAI Cup," said captain Kevin Murray, who scored the only goal of the game on the final day of the season as Ramblers got the win they needed at Athlone Town FC to claim the title. "Hopefully, people will be talking about the team of 2007 from now on."

'Nowhere to train'
Cobh won the title with the youngest squad in the division and one of the smallest budgets, the board having decided to focus investment on developing their St Coleman's Park home. "These kids had nowhere to train at the start of the season," said Henderson. "They had no training equipment, everything was going into the development of the ground. But they didn't moan, they just got down to it and worked hard."

'We will be safe'
Cobh fans, who have not seen Premier Division games at the club since 1995, know that top flight football will be tough, especially as three clubs are to be relegated at the end of the 2008 season, compared to just one in 2007, but club chairman Barry Walsh is confident, saying: "I am not interested in the three clubs going down next year as we won't be one of them, we will be safe from the drop." Finn Harps FC were also promoted last weekend, after beating Waterford United FC 6-2 on aggregate in a two-legged promotion/relegation play-off.
