30th September 2007 - Mark's Unbreakable Diva*" was at the Coca Cola Kidscape Party at Grosvenor Hotel and shares her story and pictures with us

'I was at the event last night. It was a great evening, which raised £250,000 for charity. The lads appeared on stage soon after The Sugababes (at around 11.50pm) and performed 8 songs.

They were in top form and seemed to make a good impression on the audience, especially when they sang 'You Raise Me Up' and two songs from their rat pack album. They finished their set at around 12.20am and started leaving the hotel 15 minutes later!

Kian looked like he was in a hurry by the way he marched through the foyer to his awating car. Shane was more laid back and was happy to chat and pose for photos. Mark and Kevin strolled out of the hotel and said hello before stopping for others outisde. Nicky also stopped to sign autographs etc.'

Record-breakers stick to what Irish do best

>Article shortened<

The Irish seem to be sticking to what they know best in the latest list of world records by excelling in agriculture, dance, music and literature.
Craig Glenday, editor of Guinness World Records, attempted to sum up the luck of the Irish in making the record books.

"It seems to be about celebrating Irish culture in a lot of things, whether it's singing, dancing or playing instruments," he said.

"There is a real pride in Irish music and culture and making sure no-one else in the world does it better.

Musically, the Irish hall of record-breaking fame is dominated by crooning - both boy-band and Co Donegal style.

Kincasslagh's Daniel O'Donnell has now had at least one new album in the UK top 40 every year between 1991 and 2006 - including a record 10 albums in the 21st century.

Between 1999 and 2000 Westlife were also the only group to have their first seven singles enter the charts at number one.

By November 2006 they had scored 21 successive top five singles when The Rose became number one.

But fighting back for trad musicians is Liam O'Connor, who set a new record for accordion playing when he squeezed out 11.67 notes per second live on radio in Dublin last November.

26th Septemebr 2007 - Post Office trials mortgages (mentions WL in post office adverts)

Post Office trials mortgages

The Post Office is to begin offering mortgages in the North of England this week, with a view to rolling out the service across the country.

Three types of mortgages will be available during the trial, led by a three-year fixed-rate product with an initial rate of 6.09%. The loans will be backed by Bristol & West, part of the Bank of Ireland.

Post Office director of lending Gary Fitton said: "We believe there is a real need for straightforward mortgage products, which don't entice customers with headline grabbing rates and then penalise them with huge fees. This is why we have developed products with good initial and long-term value."

Meanwhile, as it increases its range of financial products, the Post Office is also pursuing a new image. Brand Republic reports that the firm is abandoning its long-running 'ants' adverts in favour of a campaign based around celebrities, including Joan Collins and Westlife

25th September 2007 - Post Office Kills Off Ants In Shift To Celebrity Ads

by Nicola Clark Marketing 25-Sep-07, 08:30
user posted image
LONDON - The Post Office is ditching its long-running 'ants' campaign in favour of a celebrity-based drive starring Joan Collins and Westlife.

The ads, which are the first work from the Post Office's new agency Mother, will form part of a multimillion-pound campaign designed to promote the role of the Post Office...

The activity was overseen by Post Office marketing director Gary Hockey-Morley, who said it will form the backbone of a broader push.
'It will highlight our unique service and the broad range of competitively priced products on offer at local Post Offices,' he said.
The ads, which will break on October 14, will be set in a fictional post office. Other celebrities lined up to appear include Bill Oddie and Keith Harris and Orville.
The campaign marks a shift in strategy at the Post Office, which has recently faced negative publicity
surrounding government plans to close 2500 branches by 2009 in a bid to cut its current subsidy.
The Post Office currently has a network of more than 14,000 outlets in Britain. It has been reported that managing director Alan Cook will receive a £1m bonus if he brings the planned closures in on schedule.

Stamping out the chart competition ... Westlife in Post Office ad
September 25, 2007

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

WESTLIFE have given a first-class performance in their debut telly commercial.

The cheesy crooners are starring in a new ad campaign to plug the Post Office.

KIAN EGAN, SHANE FILAN, NICKY BYRNE and MARK FEEHILY liven up a postmaster’s day by popping in — probably to send a parcel to their mams in Ireland. I’m surprised they didn’t get mobbed by their legions of fans there to pick up their pensions.

The lads certainly played their roles to the letter.

You would think Westlife had a new album to promote . . . oh, they have.

The band have a new single and album out in time for Christmas. Can’t wait.

23rd September 2007 - X FACTOR CATFIGHT mentions Kian Egan helping out Louis

X FACTOR CATFIGHT
ABOVE: Nicole Scherzinger
23rd September 2007 By James Ingham Your Shout
SNEAKY X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne has stepped up her TV war with Dannii Minogue – using a sexy secret weapon.

Sharon is about to get a big helping of the sex-factor in the shape of Pussycat Dolls babe Nicole Scherzinger.
The sexy singer has been recruited by Sharon, 54, to help pick her final three wannabes.

Sharon hopes the 29-year-old, who is single, will be her secret weapon to pick a winner – and beat deadly rival Dannii, 35, in the glamour stakes. Our X Factor mole said: “Getting Nicole on her team is a big boost for Sharon.

“Not only is she the lead singer in the most successful girl band around – but she is also extremely sexy.

“Sharon knows she can’t compete with Dannii in the sex appeal stakes herself – so she has brought in someone who can.”

This fourth series of X Factor has already proved the hottest, thanks to stunning pop princess Dannii – but the show has been rife with rumours of bad blood between her and Sharon.

And this latest move seems sure to upset Dannii and make her a real sour Puss. The two female judges have denied not getting on – but both admit to being incredibly competitive about the show.

ABOVE: Rival Dannii Minogue

Sharon was reportedly devastated by the shock sacking of eccentric vocal coach Mark Hudson, 56, earlier this year.

Show boss Simon Cowell, 47, is believed to have brought down the axe on the music producer after he labelled last year’s winner Leona Lewis, 22, as “bland”.

Our source added: “Sharon and Mark are extremely good friends so his sacking caused a bit of a rift between everyone.

“But Sharon is a hugely successful businesswoman and she has used this opportunity to bring a big star on board.”

And her career is expected to take a huge jump with the release of her first solo album – Her Name Is Nicole – which is due in the shops next month.

Meanwhile, Dannii has called in music producer and close pal Terry Roland to fight her corner. She has worked closely with Terry on several albums.

Our insider said: “Dannii wanted a friend she trusted rather than some other celebrity.”

She is extremely sexy.

Judge Cowell is relying on his long-time pal Sinitta, while Louis Walsh has re-hired Westlife star Kian Egan.

Meanwhile, the poshest man in pop – James Blunt – is being lined up to appear on X Factor as a mentor.

The ex-Army officer is due to join mega-stars J.Lo, Elton John, Celine Dion and Dannii’s big sister Kylie on the show.
Ladies’ favourite James – who will top the album charts today with his second offering All The Lost Souls – will be brought in to perform his hits and give tips to the wannabes.

A show insider said: “James is a massive scoop and he is keen to appear.”

X Factor boss Cowell plans nine live shows, with a different singing sensation performing each week – starting with last year’s winner Leona Lewis, 22, who will be singing her new single Bleeding Love on the first show.

23rd September 2007 - Kian to help with x factor again

Sharon Osbourne has recruited Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger for her X Factor team, according to a report today.

The 54-year-old is the only original judge who has not yet won the ITV1 talent series, and hopes that Nicole will help her to guide a contestant to victory.

As usual, Simon Cowell is being assisted by 80s pop star Sinitta, while Louis Walsh has decided to work with Westlife star Kian Egan again. New judge Dannii Minogue has called in music producer Terry Roland to join her team.

An insider told the Daily Star Sunday: "Getting Nicole on her team is a big boost for Sharon. Not only is she the lead singer in the most successful girl band around - but she is also extremely sexy. Sharon knows she can't compete with Dannii in the sex appeal stakes herself - so she has brought in someone who can."

Westlife Update

It’s been a busy time for the band recently, with lots of promotional work for ‘Home’.

On Tuesday they recorded footage for a special DVD that will be availably exclusively in Woolworths containing brand new unseen footage and interviews (we’ll have more info on that soon). They also did an interview with the Mail on Sunday’s You magazine – keep an eye out for that, coming soon.

The evening was spent rehearsing for yesterday’s ITV Gala, a special un-televised show for top industry executives. The rehearsals were the first time that the band have sung ‘Home’ outside of the recording studio, and they were really pleased with the way it sounded.

Today the guys are recording their first TV performance of ‘Home’ for T4, which will be broadcast on 20th October, before taking a well-earned break over the weekend to spend some time with friends and families.

It’s back to work on Tuesday to shoot some more footage for the ‘Home’ video. The bulk of it was recorded in LA a few weeks ago, with the final sections being finished in the UK next week.

Stay tuned for more updates!

21st September 2007 - First the Kaiser Chiefs, now the next big boy band (mentions Westlife)

First the Kaiser Chiefs, now the next big boy band

View GalleryBy Suzanne McTaggart
MUSIC teachers at St Mary's school in Menston have a lot to be proud of.

First, they developed the talents of the Kaiser Chiefs, one of the country's best loved bands .

Now another former student is set to storm the charts with his boy band, Billiam.

Hunky singer Jordan McPhee left the school in 2004 to pursue a music career and since joining Billiam in 2006 the band is slowly but surely climbing the ladder of success.

Billiam's debut single Beautiful Ones was released on Monday and earlier this year the boys supported Westlife on their UK tour an experience described by 22-year-old Jordan as "amazing".

They also made a few hundred new fans when Jordan returned to perform at his old school in Leeds yesterday alongside band mates Stephen Dunham, Jazz Rocket and Gee McArthur.

"We're an all-singing, all-dancing band," Jordan said. "We're touring with Westlife and Girls Aloud next year so we're really happy with that. Touring with Westlife was amazing, you shout at the crowd and they roar back at you. It's weird to be back at St Mary's but it's really good. It's a bit of a buzzing feeling."

The lads from Westlife are not the band's only celebrity connections – Gee is currently dating former Big Brother housemate Kara-Louise Horne.

"It's only recently come out so it feels a bit weird talking about it but they are dating," Jordan said. "Things are going really well for the band at the moment, we have two albums in the pipeline and we've been compared to Take That in the early years which is obviously a great compliment."

Mhari Keith, music teacher at St Mary's, said: "He didn't take music GCSE but he was a member of bands within the school. We're all very proud of the musical talent we have here at St Mary's."

21st September 2007 - Mika to be sued(mentions Westlife)

Westlife Mentioned

UK pop singer Mika is set to be sued by a female reggae artist who claims he stole her name.

Belgian chanteuse Mika says the Grace Kelly singer, whose full name is Mica Penniman, should change his moniker as she registered the name in the 80s.

She said: "I was called Mika before him and have registered the name. Even though his real name is Mica, I think he should change it."

The reggae singer - who has released five albums in her native Belgium - also wants Mika to pay her damages.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "She's not happy. There's only enough room for one Mika in the pop world - and she was here first."

Belgian Mika released her debut single, MLK, in 1989 but it wasn't a big hit and neither were her subsequent releases.

In contrast, the other Mika - whose family were forced to flee war-torn Lebanon for Paris before later settling in London - saw his debut album, Life In Cartoon Motion, sell more than three million copies worldwide.

If the Love Today singer is forced to change his name, he will not be the first.

In 2001, Popstars' runners-up Liberty had to change their moniker to Liberty X while Irish boyband Westlife were originally known as Westside.

Westlife want to showcase their new album on a TV programme scheduled just before X Factor to help boost record sales.

The 'Flying Without Wings' boyband reportedly believe that by previewing new tracks around the popular ITV reality show they will be helped in achieving a hit with new single 'Home'.

A source told The Sun: "It will be a Saturday night type of show so it’d be great to run it before the semi-final or final of X Factor as the ratings have been so good."

Lads want little X-tra help

September 17, 2007

WESTLIFE and their pal SIMON COWELL are hoping the group’s comeback album will get a boost from The X Factor.

It’s been nearly a year since the band’s last chart hit, and new single Home is out in October, followed by the new album.

Home’s first airing was as background music during The X Factor auditions and the lads hope a programme showcasing the new album’s tracks will be screened just before the ITV talent show to boost sales.

A source said: “It will be a Saturday night type of show so it’d be great to run it before the semi-final or final of X Factor as the ratings have been so good.”

Home is going to need a boost as it will be released around the same time as tracks from other big-hitters including KYLIE, BRITNEY and possibly MADONNA.

16th September 2007 - WESTLIFE REFUSE TO TAKE ON THE KING.

WESTLIFE REFUSE TO TAKE ON THE KING.

single put back to avoid Elvis.

Irish crooners westlife have delayed the release of their new single-to avoid going to battle with the king of rock 'n' roll.
The chart-topping foursome have put back their cover version of Candian star Michael Buble's ballad Home for an extra week.
the track will now be released in Ireland on october 26 and in Britain on october 29.
It means the hunky boyband will have a clear shot at the number one slot-with Elvis Presley taken out out of the running.
CLASSIC
The king's classic ballad if I can dream is due for re-release on october 19 in Ireland and october 22 in the UK.
It is expected to be one of the main contenders for the top spot.
If I can dream only reached number 11 in the UK chart when it was first released in 1969.
but the song is one of Elvis fans' favourite ballads and RCA,also home to westlife, have high hopes for the song second time around.
Home is the first single to be released from the Sligo lads' upcoming ninth studio album.

15th - Literal text of Louis conversation before HOME played on radio

Villy, has made a literal of the song with Louis introduction, so we can see what he said.  thanks hunnie

Dj: Michael Buble's song 'Home' has been covered by Westlife and we just caught up with Louis and asked him why he gave it to us.
Louis: Listen, nobody else has the record 'cause I brought it home from London yesterday. I would love it with Simon Cowell, Westlife and I brought it back here and I thought I'd give it to you for the first play 'cause you play more Irish records than any other station. I've been listening to radio here the last few days, about six - seven stations in Dublin... It's all American music. I heard Mika and Mika and Rihanna and Rihanna and Justin. I don't hear North Irish records and I loved the Top40 last week. There's very few Irish records in the singles and the albums and the reason is because they don't get airplay.
Dj: Now, talk to me about the Buble song, 'Home'. Cracking number, why did you choose that one?
Louis: I didn't choose it...
Dj: Oh right!
Louis: Simon Cowell chose this one.
Dj: Oh, Simon Cowell!
Louis: Simon chose this one and Westlife, they really liked it and said 'Yeah, absolutely, we're absolutely doing it' and this is a very popular song.
Dj: And Louis, are you happy looking at Simon Cowell pock his nose into Westlife?
Louis: Yeah, because occasionally he gets the right. (laughs) We've had 14 number ones in the UK, that could be our 15th. I know record sales are nothing like they used to be. We've got a lot of competition out there, you know, and the boys have a great new album done, coming out before Christmas. I think it's going to be called 'Home' and there's a rumour they might even do Croke Park next year, that's the latest rumour!
Dj: Did you hear this, that's the latest rumour that Louis might just heard.
Louis: Yeah!... This is the first airplay of a great song, from a great Irish band, on a great Irish radio station and it's called 'Home' and it's Westlife…

14th Spetember 2007 - Boyband goes back to school (mentions Westlife)

Boyband goes back to school

These days the music scene is all guitars, indie and skinny jeans.
But since the Take That revival boybands seem to be making a comeback and one band determined to hit the big time is Billiam – formed, like the Spice Girls, after answering an advert in The Stage magazine.

Jazz Rocket, Stephen Dunham, Gee McArther and Jordan McPhee were in Preston having their hair done at Kudos on Lancaster Road before their tour of schools in the area.

The band's first single Beautiful Ones is released on Monday.

The name Billiam comes from a mouse out of an episode of My Name is Earl and the four live in Blackpool. Jordan, 21, said: "We sent off our demos and went to auditions with about 1,500 people.

"Just from auditioning, Stephen and Jazz knew each other and me and Gee knew each other, so it worked out quite well that we were the final four."

Stephen, 22, said: "We did the two-month Love tour with Westlife in March and that was awesome. I liked them back in the day when Brian McFadden was with them but then I kind of went away but, after touring with them, I love the

guys."

The band is in talks to tour with them again next year, after talks to tour with Natasha Bedingfield didn't work out.

Jazz, 21, said: "After the Westlife tour our agent was trying to find a tour for us to go on and thought the Natasha Bedingfield one would be great.

"But she said she doesn't do boybands – which is fair enough. Her audience probably won't be the best audience for us anyway. But there's no animosity or hatred from us to her.

Gee, 20, said: "We're hoping, fingers crossed, from Monday that we'll get whisked up in a big whirlwind – with a lot of hard work – and everything will pay off.

"If not, I'd go back home and enjoy my Christmas and go off and sing on a Caribbean cruise – singing is first and foremost why we're all in it."

Billiam are at Carr Hill school in Kirkham Friday, Our Lady's Catholic High School, Preston, on Monday and Lostock Hall High on Thursday.

11th September 2007 - Norman, 86, Brushes Up On Westlife

Norman, 86, Brushes Up On Westlife -
Solo singing role is a challenge

A sprightly octogenarian from Luton is educating himself in the music of boy band Westlife, after being asked to sing one of their songs.

Great-grandfather Norman Deacon, 86, is a member of Vauxhall Male Voice Choir (VMVC), who have given him a solo singing part in the pop song You Raise Me Up - a tune he was completely unfamiliar with beforehand.

But Norman, of Moat Lane, Limbury, is thrilled with his new trendy vocal part, despite not really being a fan of Westlife.

He said: "If you are interested in singing in a male voice choir, whatever your age, I can fully recommend VMVC. When you join you belong to a great band of men who live for singing. The camaraderie is something quite apart."

VMVC meets every Wednesday in St Margaret's Methodist Church, Montrose Avenue, Biscot Mill, Luton, and a series of four free singing sessions will be available on September 26, October 3, 10, and 17.

For more information, call Richard on 01582 572508 or Brian on 01525 871077 or visit www.vmvc.org.

10th September 2007 -How dare Louis call McFly fakes (mentions WL)

How dare Louis call McFly fakes
Source: Sunday Mercury

POP heart-throb Dougie Poynter has launched an Xrated attack on critic Louis Walsh for claiming his group McFly are faking it.

The X-Factor judge successfully managed Westlife and Boyzone, helping them clock up No 1 hits around the world.

But he recently claimed the new breed of guitar boy bands, including McFly and Busted, were not playing their instruments.

"They were holding guitars and I don't think they were plugged in most of the time," he said.

The astonishing outburst brought an equally blistering response from Dougie, who told the Sunday Mercury: "What a b*****d. That p****s me off.

"People like Tom and Danny in the band are so talented. How can Louis say we don't play our own instruments?

"They've been playing since they were six years old. They are incredible performers and writers."

And in a pop at Irish manager Louis' own groups, Dougie added: "He's obviously not used to bands who can play their own instruments and write their own music.

"He says there's no plugs leading from the guitars. Has he never heard of wireless leads? I don't think he knows about that.

"I'm shocked that he made these comments. We've met him before and he was really nice to us."

Music mogul Louis also criticised the image of the groups when he appeared on an ITV show titled The Truth About Boy Bands.

He said: "They're jumping round the stage with silly haircuts, trying to be American - I don't buy that.

"Behind closed doors in their hotels they get drunk, they take drugs, they let in groupies: they're guys."

But a shocked Dougie hit back: "What does he know? We're just really normal guys. We're nothing special.

"Anyway, I've got my dog Flea, who I spend a lot of time with."

McFly will play two Midland gigs as a warm-up to their winter nationwide tour - Wolverhampton's Civic Hall on September 27 and Telford International Centre on October 12.

The group then return to Birmingham's NEC on November 30 as part of the Arena tour.

Once the tour is over, Dougie plans to pass his driving test - after failing his last one for driving on the wrong side of the road.

"I nearly knocked over an old man who had a walking stick," he said. "Now I've got to wait a few months before I can do the test again.

"I've got a Holden Yute, in racing green, waiting for me in the garage. Hopefully I'll pass next time."

McFly release their next single, The Heart Never Lies, in November and a new album will be out next year.

For tickets to the Wolverhampton Civic Hall gig, call the Box Office on 0870 320 7000.

SHOW ME THE MONEY!
Be the first reader to comment on this story

12:00 - 06 September 2007

Aberdeen's conference centre has had its "busiest year yet" and brought in £38.5 million for city businesses.

Visitors, artists and exhibitors at the AECC have brought in extra revenue for taxi firms, restaurants, hotels and guest houses.

And the amount made from concerts is now more than that earned from the big-money conferences.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Official figures estimate a total of £6.7m was brought into the city from shows and big events, and £6m from conferences.

The biggest money-earner was Peter Pan on Ice which raised £739,797 and attracted 3,290 visitors over five days in January.

Other cash-spinners were American pop star Pink, who brought in £548,791 last November.

Three nights of comedy sensation Little Britain raised £432,742 and live snooker brought in £436,326. Lionel Richie raised £435,492, Irish boyband Westlife brought in £406,253 and American rockers The Killers £372,298.

The figures are based on what spectators are estimated to have spent in the city on accommodation and recreation while the events were on.

Visitors to conferences are estimated to spend the most.

Those in the North-east for the day spend £145 but people who stay overnight in the city clock up £428 each time they visit.

People attending a show are estimated to spend £43.90, but the artists and management spend as much as £210 if staying overnight.

As well as conferences and concerts, the AECC also hosts dinner dances and private meetings. It was the scene of the counts for both local and national elections in May.

Two months ago it was revealed that the centre had made losses of more than £2 million in the last financial year.

But supporters of the centre said it was important to note the amount it was generating for the city.

Depute managing director Brian Horsburgh said: "Last year was certainly our busiest yet and we have seen an increase in the number of acts that are playing here in addition to the national and international conferences."

The organisers were particularly pleased with the results as it had come in a year without the bi-annual Offshore Europe conference. The four-day event, which finishes on Friday, has attracted 30,000 visitors and it is expected the income generated from delegates will boost the economy by an extra £20 million.

In 2005 the council took over direct control of the centre, which opened in 1985. It was given a £18 million facelift in 2003 and the council now gives it a £650,000 grant each year, funded from business rates.

5th September 2007 - Byrned Out; Twins Leave Singer Nicky Wrecked

WESTLIFE'S Nicky Byrne has confessed fatherhood has tamed his showbiz lifestyle and left him living the snooze-life.

The 28-year-old singer has been left shattered since his twins Rocco and Jay were born in April.

And he has only enjoyed one night out with 28-year-old wife Georgina Ahern since the kids arrived.

The Dubliner revealed: "You go through so many emotions when you are a dad and sleep depravation just adds to the emotional confusion.

"People tell you all about it and you say, 'Ah yeah, I'll be grand', but you don't know what it is to be tired until you've been through it." Nicky surprised Georgina with a romantic night backstage at the recent Justin Timberlake concert in Dublin.

But they ended up pining for their newborns.

Nicky explained: "I surprised her and took her to the Justin concert.

"She was absolutely gobsmacked. Miriam Georgina's mum and my mum came over to babysit for us and we had a ball.

"Of course, we missed the lads terribly.

"It's hard to explain but you feel you cannot give them enough of your love and attention and being away from them for a few hours is awful." Despite the massive upheaval, Nicky said he has never been so happy.

He added: "We wouldn't change any of it for the world. This is the happiest time of our life.

"I never even thought about changing a nappy in my life. I mean, my mum joked about it.

"The nurses taught us on a daily basis how to handle them, e them, change their nappies and feed them.

"That was all very fine when you are there in hospital and they're nearby, but when you get home it is another thing entirely. But we are a dab hand at it now and love every minute of it." Nicky said one of their biggest challenges was introducing their golden Labrador Keano to the new arrivals.

He told Maternity and Infant magazine: "Keano is great with them.

"We introduce him on a regular basis to the lads and he loves them.

"Mind you, he is spending a lot more time in the garden than he used to but we intend to make him very much part of the boys' lives.

"I hold him on the lead and allow him to get a bit close so that he can become familiar with them."
