IN WEMBLEY ARENA’S SQUARE OF FAME
Westlife - Wembley Arena’s all time best selling pop band – were honoured on Friday ahead of their 26th and 27th shows at the historic venue, unveiling a plaque of their handprints in Wembley’s Square of Fame.
Kian, Nicky, Shane and Mark join other music legends including Madonna, George Michael, Kylie, Status Quo, Lionel Richie and Dolly Parton who have all had their handprints immortalised in the brass plaques that adorn the square fronting the world famous Wembley Arena.
Westlife played their first Wembley Arena show back in 2001 and have since gone on to sell over a quarter of a million tickets at their Arena shows alone. In 2006 they surpassed pop greats Steps as Wembley Arena’s best ever selling pop band racking up their 22nd and 23rd shows before returning in 2007 and now in 2008 on their ‘Back Home’ tour.
On the unveiling Kian Egan said, 'Wembley is steeped in history and to play it once was an achievement in itself. To reach 27 is mind blowing ! Here's to 27 more!'
Quintain Estates, owners of the Wembley Arena and Square of Fame , also presented Westlife with their own personalised frame of their hands in 3D, a copy of which will be placed in the Arena’s restaurant at a later date for fans to see.
